About twenty locations in Dubai appear in ninety percent of pre-wedding shoots. You've seen them. Every couple, every reel, the same angles.
This guide covers the ones that are actually worth your money — with the kind of notes that no permit-counter clerk will volunteer. By the end, you'll know which locations need permits, the exact time of day to shoot each one, what to wear without blowing out in desert sun, and three under-shot spots in Old Dubai that look straight out of a film set.
Iconic and Instantly Recognisable
Burj Khalifa and Dubai Fountain
The shot everyone wants, and the one that needs the most planning. Your window is 5:30 to 6:30 am — fountain plaza empty, building sidelights still on. After 9 am you're competing with four thousand tourists. Tripods need a permit.
Burj Al Arab from Sunset Beach
The only public beach with a clean Burj Al Arab view. Shoot thirty minutes before sunset. The south end of the beach has cleaner sand. No permit needed for handheld shoots.
Museum of the Future
The metallic exterior gives you mirror reflections that look like a sci-fi film. The 6 am light is unbeatable. Security stops shoots after 9 am, so get there early.

Beach and Waterfront
JBR Beach and Dubai Marina Walk
Dependable, well-lit and easy to park. Best at golden hour with the Marina skyline behind you. Arrive ninety minutes before sunset — you'll want time on both the promenade and the beach. No permit needed for couple shoots.
Dubai Creek by Abra
Genuinely underrated. Hire a private abra for around AED 120 and shoot mid-crossing. The old Deira skyline behind you looks unlike anything else in Dubai. Best in the 4 pm light.
Bluewaters Island and Ain Dubai
The world's tallest observation wheel makes a clean backdrop without needing to go inside. The Wharf side of Bluewaters has far fewer tourists than the main walk.
Old Dubai — The Under-Shot Spots
Al Seef
Sandstone walls, wooden doors, low arches. Feels like a film set because technically it is — built in 2017 to evoke 1950s Dubai. Shoot 4 to 6 pm. Free entry, no permit for couple shoots.
Al Fahidi Historical District (Bastakiya)
The real old quarter. Narrow alleys, wind towers, courtyards, a slower pace. Bring a 35mm lens — you won't have room for a long focal length here.
Madinat Jumeirah Waterways
A small abra through the canals with the Burj Al Arab in the background. Stunning at dusk. Resort permission is required if you're not staying — AED 1,500 for a two-hour slot.
Desert and Nature
Al Qudra Lakes
Our favourite desert location. Real lakes in the desert, flamingos in winter. Shoot at sunrise and drive yourself — pickup vehicles get stuck. It's worth the early alarm.
Al Qudra Love Lake
Two heart-shaped lakes best appreciated from above. You'll need a drone here — handheld doesn't do it justice. Go at sunrise; by 8 am the wind picks up.
Hatta
Ninety minutes from Dubai. Mountain ranges, a freshwater dam, rocky trails. The closest Dubai gets to a hill station. Worth a full-day trip if you want shots that don't look like Dubai.
Liwa Desert (Abu Dhabi side)
Three hours out. The biggest dunes in the UAE. Only worthwhile for a sunrise shoot. Requires 4x4 access; we arrange the vehicle and driver.

Seasonal and Special-Permit Locations
Dubai Miracle Garden
Open November to April only. Postcard-bright, perfect for couples who want serious colour. Book the 9 am slot before crowds arrive. Professional shoot permits cost AED 1,000.
Atlantis The Palm
Stay one night and the shoot is included with most Atlantis stays. The underwater suite shoot is unique — book four months ahead because it fills fast.
Permits — The Honest Version
Rule of thumb: handheld camera plus couple shoot equals no permit in about eighty percent of public locations. Add a tripod, lighting, drone or wardrobe change and you're in permit territory.
We handle all permits as part of our pre-wedding package — Dubai Film and TV Commission clearances, individual venue permits and DCAA drone permits. Lead time is seven to ten working days.
Timing — The Hours That Actually Matter
| Location type | Best window |
|---|---|
| Downtown / Urban | 5:30 to 7 am |
| Beach / Marina | 4:30 pm to sunset |
| Old Dubai | 4 to 6 pm |
| Desert | Sunrise |
| Indoor / Resort | 10 am–12 pm, or 3–5 pm |
What to Wear
Three rules we give every couple. No pure white outdoors after 11 am — it blows out and kills the dress detail. Avoid thin-line prints — they moiré on camera and ruin the edit. Bring two outfits per location: a hero look and a relaxed second look. It adds twenty-five percent more images to your gallery with zero extra shoot time.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long is a typical pre-wedding shoot in Dubai?
Four to eight hours, usually across two locations. We rarely push three — changeover time burns your light.
What does a pre-wedding shoot cost in Dubai?
AED 6,000 to 18,000 depending on locations, crew size and outfit changes. Permits add AED 0 to 2,500. Book the pre-wedding alongside full wedding coverage and we bundle it at 20% off.
Do we need a permit at the Burj Khalifa?
For a couple with a handheld camera — no. For tripods, lights or a styled wardrobe setup — yes. We handle the application.
Is the drone shot at Love Lake legal?
Only with a DCAA permit. If someone quotes AED 800 for drone at Love Lake, that's almost certainly unlicensed flight.
Can we shoot inside the Burj Al Arab?
Only as hotel guests or through a paid shoot package. Day visitors are exterior only.
What about modesty in public locations?
Dubai is relaxed compared to other Gulf cities, but dress respectfully in public. Bridal lehengas, sarees, evening gowns and tuxedos are fine everywhere we shoot.
Best month for a pre-wedding shoot in Dubai?
November through early March. October is borderline. April to September is brutal — outdoor shoots have to start by 5 am.
Do you shoot couples on tourist visas?
Yes — about thirty percent of our pre-weddings are couples on a two-to-three day Dubai trip from India. We plan locations efficiently so you don't lose your holiday to logistics.
